Should Rappers Retire?!
Anyone who knows me knows that my all time favorite rapper is Jay-z. This is for various reasons. Perhaps the most important one is because due to me growing up in a strict Christian home, I started listening to Hip-Hop in 2001. This is also the year the classic album, The Blueprint was released. I have ALWAYS been a fan of poetry so rap was easy for me to follow. I listened to The Blueprint the whole way through and was very impressed. I was like, "man this is what I've been missing?!" I listened to other rappers and they did not compare. Others were great but I just felt like Hov had it all. But now he's getting older. Old. I say all that to say this. Because of his age should he stop? By saying a rap artist is too old to rap is saying Hip-Hop is a genre of music only for young people. Thus making it an immature art form. Please, give me your thoughts. Thanks in advance...

Hip Hop is the Voice of an Oppressed Culture and their Impressive Will to Survive, Against All Odds. Though, Some of Our Artist and Their Lyrics Fall Short of a Real Representation and Commitment to that Voice, there is Still Relevancy, of Some Sort. Whether 13, 33, or 50, this Voice Should Be Represented Until the Day We Die. I Will Love Black Music of All Kinds Forever, and I pray those Artist Who Carry the Soundtrack for Our Lives, will Carry it Until the Day they Die.
ReplyDeleteWell said. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteShould rappers retire because of old age? No. I DO believe that any artist who no longer has a message, love or respect for whatever medium they choose to represent then retirement should be considered..I LOVED the Blueprint as well but I no longer care for Jay-Z's music(or whatever he calls what he's doing now)& think it disrespects what The Blueprint was...Should he retire? I wouldn't go THAT far but if he & many of these current rappers decided to it wouldn't bother me abit! ~1
ReplyDeleteThank you for your input bro. I guess I am bias to Jay-z but I definitely understand where you are coming from.
